Several churches across the Diocese of Nashville held services for Divine Mercy Sunday on April 16, as they asked for God's mercy for individuals and the whole world. St. John Paul II established the Second Sunday of Easter as Divine Mercy Sunday in 2000 as a way to draw a clear connection between the Paschal Mystery and the merciful love of God. The Devotion to the Divine Mercy is based on the writings and revelations of Polish nun St. Faustina Kowalska in the 1930s. The Divine Mercy Service at Immaculate Conception in Clarksville was led by Deacon Juan Garza, director of religious education.
