The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe was celebrated by Hispanic communities at parishes throughout the diocese on Dec. 11 and 12. Bishop J. Mark Spalding celebrated Mass for the feast day at Sagrado Corazon Church and Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the Americas, unborn children and the New Evangelization, is an important religious and national feast for Mexico, commemorating the Blessed Virgin's appearance to St. Juan Diego, a poor Mexican Indian, in present day Mexico City in the 16th century. Bishop Spalding prays silently during Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe.
