The First Horizon Foundation presented a check for $25,000 to Catholic Charities, Diocese of Nashville Thursday, Nov. 17, in Bishop's Conference Room at the Catholic Pastoral Center. Judy Orr, Catholic Charities executive director; Brian Cooper, chancellor and chief operating officer for the diocese; and Ashley Linville, director of the Office of Stewardship and Development, accepted the donation on behalf of Catholic Charities and the Diocese of Nashville. The check was presented by Brian G. Reeves, senior vice president of commercial banking at First Horizon, and Renee Drake, executive vice president of commercial banking at First Horizon. Kristen Rainey, assistant director of Marriage and Family for the Office of Faith Formation, has volunteered to clean and polish the archived chalices, ciboriums and patens prior to loaning them out. Here, she's seen polishing the JFK Memorial Chalice which was donated by the Knights of Columbus Desoto Council #517. The chalice will be used by the Office of Faith Formation for its various events and retreats.
While at the Catholic Pastoral Center Tuesday, Sept. 13, for the monthly Priests' Assembly with Bishop J. Mark Spalding, several priests visited archives to look at the dozens of chalices, ciboriums and patens which were recently put on display, and are available for priests to check out for use. Many of the pieces are accompanied by a historical background over the 85 years of the Diocese of Nashville. Father Rhodes Bolster, chaplain of University Catholic/Nashville, checks out the Brew Family Chalice presented to Bishop Alphonse J. Smith in memory of Charles Driscol Brew, with the help of Brent Wiebe, archives coordinator.
Dozens of Young Catholic Professionals across the Diocese of Nashville were afforded the opportunity to experience one of the unique gifts of the Catholic Church during the monthly meeting of YCP Nashville on Thursday, Nov. 18, in the Cathedral of the Incarnation’s Fleming Center. Three relics of St. Padre Pio were available for veneration with the opportunity for attendees to touch personal sacramentals to them, creating third class relics of their own. Shawn Curley, a parishioner of the Cathedral of the Incarnation, venerates the relics.
