Since 1937, the Tennessee Register, the official newspaper of the Diocese of Nashville, has served as a voice of Catholic life in Middle Tennessee, telling the good news of its parishes, schools, and faithful.
As media continues to evolve, the Register is looking to keep up with the trends of the times. Therefore, beginning Wednesday, Nov. 1, the bi-monthly publication will be coming to parishes and subscribers with a whole new look.
“This upcoming redesign is really a refresh of this popular, trusted, print publication in our diocese,” said Gia Riney, chief marketing officer for the Office of Media and Evangelization (OME), noting that the last layout change was more than 20 years ago.
“As an OME, we decided it would be an optimal time to give the paper a fresh look and feel,” she said. “The changes will not only be on the front page, but it will be the layout of the interior pages, too, as it serves the news and information needs of today’s faithful Catholic.”
To that end, part of this new redesign to the interior will include bringing in new sections and content. This decision was the result of two reader surveys that have been conducted, one earlier this year and another in the early days of Bishop J. Mark Spalding’s episcopacy. Through those surveys, readers have expressed interest in seeing different things from the newspaper going forward.
They include:
- More coverage of diocesan and parish events
- More coverage of national Catholic issues
- More coverage of Catholic schools in the diocese
Keeping that in mind, the Register will be implementing new regular print exclusive content with each issue of the newspaper, which will reflect the opinions of the readers.
With this new redesign, the content team has also designed a new media kit with information for advertisers, which can be found at Sept-2023_MediaKit.pdf.
“We are committed to maintaining the print newspaper. The community has told us that they find value in it, and we want to continue to meet that need,” Riney said. “We hope that these fresh new changes will encourage local sponsors and advertisers to take a new look at the Tennessee Register newspaper as an opportunity to promote their business.
“We welcome the opportunity to deliver to our amazing active Catholic community access to those businesses that support Catholic media.”
With the excitement of a new, fresh newspaper, and media kit, the OME team has even more exciting plans in store that will be announced in the coming days. Additionally, the OME encourages the people of Middle Tennessee to take advantage of the opportunity to receive the newly redesigned paper directly to their home for a small annual fee of $40. Subscriptions not only support the Register but all communication activities of the OME.
“The goal of our office is to grow and strengthen the Diocese of Nashville,” Riney said, “as we seek to bring the mission of our diocese to life – living and proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ, welcoming all.”
