Holy Rosary Church in Donelson will celebrate October as the Month of the Rosary with a plan for groups to pray the rosary every day of the month.

The church is inviting the entire Catholic community to join them to pray the rosary, one of the most popular Catholic prayers.

The times will be: Sundays at 7 p.m.; Mondays at 3:30 p.m.; Tuesdays at 7 p.m. after the 6 p.m. Mass; Wednesdays at 6 p.m.; Thursdays at 9 a.m. after the 8 a.m. Mass; Fridays at noon; and Saturdays at 6 p.m. after the 5 p.m. Mass, except for Oct. 7.

On Saturday, Oct. 7, Holy Rosary Church will celebrate the Solemnity of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary with a Mass at 9 a.m. followed by a Living Rosary and a reception.

Holy Rosary Church is located at 192 Graylynn Drive in Donelson.

The month of October is dedicated to the Most Holy Rosary, primarily due to the fact that the liturgical feast of Our Lady of the Rosary is celebrated on Oct. 7. It was instituted to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary in gratitude for the protection that she gives the Church in answer to the praying of the rosary by the faithful.

According to legend, the rosary was given to St. Dominic by Mary to aid him in the conflicts with the Albigensians. Pope St. Pius V, a Dominican, officially approved the rosary in its present form in 1569.

The rosary is primarily a scriptural prayer that Pope Pius XII called “a compendium of the entire Gospel.”
