Rite of Election

Bishop J. Mark Spalding celebrated the Rite of Election on Sunday, March 1 at Sagrado Corazon Church with 302 candidates and 139 catechumens, their sponsors, and families. The candidates will enter into full communion with the Catholic Church by receiving the sacraments of the Eucharist and Confirmation at the Easter Vigil. The catechumens will be baptized and receive the Eucharist and Confirmation. The Rite of Election begins “a period of purification and enlightenment” and is the last official rite for adults who have received instruction through the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults and will be joining the Catholic Church at Easter.
