For Catholic parents looking for help in raising their children to be faithful Catholics, Family Honor is bringing its “Leading and Loving” seminar to the Diocese of Nashville.
“This empowers parents to raise God-centered, faith-filled children,” said Cheryl Roggensack, who is helping to organize the seminar, which is open to parents of children from birth to age 11.
The seminar will be held Friday and Saturday, Jan. 28-29, in Ascension Auditorium at the Catholic Pastoral Center on McGavock Pike in Nashville. The seminar, which will be held 7-9:15 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, is for the parents only.
“Leading and Loving is a dynamic program that strives to empower parents to become more knowledgeable, confident and competent leaders of their families, raising the next generation of saints,” according to information from Family Honor. “Its purpose is to assist parents of young children in the formation of faith, values and virtues.”
“It empowers parents to teach their children about moral values,” said Roggensack, a parishioner at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Columbia. “It gets parents involved as the primary teachers of their children.”
Roggensack was first introduced to Family Honor and its programs when she took her children to one of their seminars held in St. Louis. “It was a very, very good seminar,” Roggensack said. “They’re highly respected.”
Family Honor was created in 1988 in South Carolina to provide a Catholic framework on the truth and meaning of sexuality, love and family. It is a non-profit organization that presents parent-teen and parent-only programs on chastity, family communication, and Theology of the Body. The organization also provides half-day seminars and weekend courses for parents and ministry leaders.
The programs are faithful to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church and are grounded in Scripture and tradition, with an emphasis on the philosophy and teaching found in the papal documents “Humanae Vitae,” “Familiaris Consortio,” “Deus Carits Est” and the Theology of the Body.
Family Honor has been recognized as a Catholic organization in the Diocese of Charleston by Bishop Robert E. Guglielmone of Charleston, South Carolina.
The cost of the seminar is $10. “We wanted to make it as affordable as possible for these young parents,” Roggensack said.
