Everything “Downton Abbey” was the theme of the St. Christopher Church Women’s Club’s annual Tea Party on Sunday, Aug. 7, at the parish Family Life Center.
From butlers named “Carson” to English dishes and desserts, the event attracted 120 women from all around Middle Tennessee, from as close as McEwen to as far as Franklin.
“It’s a dream come true,” said Diana Morgan, Women’s Club member and founder of the Tea Party event.
When the Tea Party first started in 2000, Morgan hosted it at her house with just a few women from the parish.
“Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always dreamed of having a tearoom and just having ladies get together and have fellowship and share a cup of tea,” Morgan explained.
Since that first tea, interest has continually grown and it officially became a Women’s Club event in 2014 at the church, with nearly 50 women in attendance. “And it gets better and better each year,” Morgan said.
This year’s Tea Party was particularly special since the last two years it was not possible because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It was awesome,” said Susana Freund, who has been a member of the Women’s Club for the past eight years. “It was great because we saw faces that we haven’t seen in a while.
“It was such a fun day,” she added. The Women’s Club events “are like high school reunions and this was the best version of a class reunion.”
Along with the annual Tea Party, the Women’s Club is an active group at St. Christopher throughout the year, coming together once a month for meetings, hosting fundraisers for the church, sponsoring a school backpack program for Dickson County students, helping with funerals, supporting the Knights of Columbus and more.
And it’s made up of women who look out for and take care of each other, Freund said.
“This is the best sisterhood you can have,” Freund said. “This is genuine love and caring for each other.
“I am honored to belong to the Women’s Club,” she said. “It’s the greatest group of women you can find.”
The Women’s Club is open to all female parishioners of St. Christopher for only $5 per year. For more information, call Morgan at 615-351-1591 or email moomorgan@comcast.net.
