Each year, the St. Vincent de Paul Society conference at St. John Vianney Church in Gallatin provides assistance to hundreds of Sumner County families facing an impending eviction, the shutoff of utilities, or other financial crises.
The conference helps pay for that assistance with proceeds raised at its annual 5K Walk/Run for Those in Need.
This year, the event, which is in its 11th year, will be held on Saturday, Sept. 23, starting at the arch at the entrance of Triple Creek Park in Gallatin, and following the greenway trail under U.S. Highway 31 and along the creek on a beautiful, mostly shady, route.
Directions and water stations will be provided along the way. Prizes will be awarded for the top three runners. Tee shirts and goodie bags will be provided for all registrants.
Registration for the walk/run begins at 7 a.m. Sept. 23, with the event beginning at 8 a.m. Information about registering for the event or being a sponsor is available at saintvincentsumner.com.
Proceeds from the 5K Walk/Run allows the St. Vincent de Paul Society Conference at St. John Vianney Church to help those in need with expenses such as rent to prevent an eviction, utility bills to prevent the shutoff of electricity, water or gas, car repairs and medical costs.
One hundred percent of the funds raised goes to those in need of all faiths, races, nationalities, and ages.
The St. Vincent de Paul Society was founded in 1833, and is today a worldwide organization of lay Catholics following Christ’s call to serve the poor, the suffering, and the deprived.
