Bishop J. Mark Spalding, with the assistance of Brian Cooper, chancellor and diocesan chief operating officer, commissioned 19 new employees of the Diocese of Nashville in a special ceremony Friday, Aug. 19, at the Catholic Pastoral Center. All of the new employees were hired between Jan. 1, 2022, and June 30, 2022.

On April 21, 2021, Humphreys County was hit with catastrophic flash floods, which killed 20 and destroyed and damaged hundreds of homes. But over the course of the last year, several organizations, such as the St. Vincent de Paul conference at St. Patrick Church in McEwen, have stepped up, helping those affected get back into their homes. Jane McCarson hugs Barbara Hooper, St. Patrick conference vice president and flood relief coordinator, in thanks for all SVDP did to help her and her family after the 2021 floods in Humphreys County.

Jeremy Darvin, a 2016 graduate of Father Ryan High School, returns to his alma mater this year as a full-time substitute teacher, a mathematics assistant with the Academic Support Program, as well as coach for the football and wrestling teams. Darvin's education at Father Ryan was made possible because of the Advancement of Catholic Education endowment fund. Pinnacle Financial Partners of Nashville presented two checks to Bishop J. Mark Spalding Wednesday, April 17, in the Bishop's Conference Room at the Catholic Pastoral Center, to benefit diocesan schools and programs. The first check, presented to Bishop Spalding by Kay Dodd, senior vice president with Pinnacle, was for $15,000 to become a title sponsor for the Hand-in-Hand Options Program Golf Tournament on Thursday, Nov. 3. Dodd is a member of the HIHO board. The second check, presented by Pinnacle senior vice presidents Gary Guinn and Robert Riggar, was for $50,000 to go toward the building of St. Michael Academy in Nolensville. Bishop Spalding said he was grateful for the generosity of Pinnacle Bank and that the donations will help the diocese in achieving great things.
