The Serra Club of Williamson County hosted the seminarians of the Diocese of Nashville during their monthly meeting Thursday, Aug. 4, at the St. Philip of the Apostle Church Community Center in Franklin. The second annual event is a final farewell for the seminarians before they leave to continue their studies. Throughout the dinner, members of the Serra Club talked with the seminarians, letting them know of their support. Throughout the year, members of the club send prayer cards to seminarians to assure them of their prayers. Father Luke Wilgenbusch, director of Vocations, introduces the seminarians to the Serra Club members.

Bishop J. Mark Spalding of Nashville welcomed the delegates and guests at the 140th Knights of Columbus Supreme Convention to the annual States Dinner. Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York was the keynote speaker for the dinner. Bishop Richard Stika of Knoxville joins the Tennessee delegation during the singing of the state song, "The Tennessee Waltz."

Father Ryan High School welcomed 249 new students to the school during a New Student Orientation Day Thursday, Aug. 4, at the school. As the day began, they were addressed by Paul Davis, the new president of Father Ryan High School. The 140th Knights of Columbus Supreme Convention kicked off with an Opening Concert and Annual Awards Session Monday, Aug. 1, at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. Country music star Craig Morgan, a parishioner of St. Christopher Church in Dickson, served as the headliner for the concert. He sang several of his hits, including the No. 1 most downloaded song on iTunes, "The Father, My Son and the Holy Ghost," which he wrote following the death of his son.

The Sewell family of Douglasville, Georgia, were named the International Family of the Year during the Awards Session. Family patriarch Robert Sewell of the Saint John Paul II Council 10821 has been a knight for 15 years.

Mark Spalding, along with his brother bishops and priests from around the world, celebrated Mass Tuesday, Aug. 2, at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center, to officially open the 140th annual Knights of Columbus Supreme Convention. Bishop Spalding, joined by his fellow bishops, prayers over the bread and wine during the Eucharistic Prayer.
