Catholic school basketball teams met at St. Pius X Classical Academy gymnasium on Saturday, Jan. 29, for Parochial League action. The Holy Rosary Vikings used a furious finish to outlast the host St. Pius X Patriots in a game between two third and fourth grade teams. In a third and fourth grade team between the St. Henry 2 Tigers and the St. Rose of Lima Stars White, St. Henry rolled to a 21-5 win. Players from both teams battle for the ball. The Tennessee Council of the Knights of Columbus held its Midyear Meeting on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 7-8, in Nashville. Saturday's agenda included the business meeting and a men's retreat, "The Road to Heaven is 'One Way,'" which was held at the Catholic Pastoral Center in Nashville and livestreamed across the state. On Friday, the Memorial Mass was celebrated by Bishop J. Mark Spalding of Nashville at the Cathedral of the Incarnation. Associate State Chaplain Father Gervan Menezes of Nashville kneels before the Eucharist during Adoration held as part of the retreat.

The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe was celebrated by Hispanic communities at parishes throughout the diocese on Dec. 11 and 12. Bishop J. Mark Spalding celebrated Mass for the feast day at Sagrado Corazon Church and Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the Americas, unborn children and the New Evangelization, is an important religious and national feast for Mexico, commemorating the Blessed Virgin's appearance to St. Juan Diego, a poor Mexican Indian, in present day Mexico City in the 16th century. Bishop Spalding prays silently during Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe.
